What happened to weekly projects

ACCUMULATING!
Project of the weeks have been suffering from moving our belonging to Maryland from Pennsylvania, getting life started for the little family (schools, babysitters, doctors etc - how can it take so much time), studying now full time myself, and trying to get my stuff to fit into over 1000 sq ft smaller house than previously. But no complains - I love Baltimore! And Project of the weeks are not buried - I am creating new sculptures and have opening reception together with Todd Rice on November 7th at Pajama Factory, studio 10, Center for Creativity, from 6-9 in Williamsport, PA - Recycled, upcycled and to be cycled projects from Pfaffli and Rice to be shown!

Project #27 is a sunflower fabric collection

Sunflowers belong in summer, and this collection of 6 sunflower fabrics was inspired by Finnish margarine ad from the late '70s: 'what did we spread on our bread prior to Flora'. The margarine package was white with big, stylized flowers surrounding the container. Somehow it came to my mind while at grocery store, now seeing greatly changed Flora package. The Flora collection has three different colored sets: large and small patterns for white with bright colors, blue-teal cools and yellow-hot and pink flowers. On each, the large patterns have the same layout with six inches diameter flower faces, but all three small flower designs have different patterns from straight to alternating lines with 1.5 inch wide flowers. All six patterns show beatifully, or should I say, smashingly together and are available through my spoonflower store printed on fabric or wallpaper.

Project #26 features Buttons up sculpture

Buttons up is a sculpture created in summer spirit, made from driftwood picked up from the Gulf of Finland, two huge rusty nails and buttons, that I discovered while digging ground at my summer cottage in South-Eastern Finland. To top it all, the head piece is made of rusty tomato sauce container, while the old buttons hang down from copper wire. Click image for a slideshow!

Project #25 is Midsummer bottle greeter

My summer started when I arrived to Finland in the middle of June. For the Midsummer, I erected a bottle greeter to the end of my cottage driveway for the few passing by people and greater magnitude animals; cranes, moose and busy bees included. Something fun to be found in the middle of Southern-Finnish traditional forest. Bottles are more than 50 years old, some closer to 80, from the woods around my cottage as earlier people used to bury items instead of taking them to recycling or a dump. Sticks are mostly spruce and are held together with steel wire. Click image for a slideshow.

Project #21 Summer bugs patterns

Available at spoonflower, my six new patterns for home decorating; to be printed on fabric or wallpaper, celebrate summer. Insects never stop amazing me, they have the most fascinating colors, patterns, layers, and nature's variations (example; making sounds from hissing to scraping to brushing). The small collection of 6 fabrics represents an egyptian Scarab, Madagascar hissing cockroach and finally, never resting Fire ant. All three insects are available in two different pattern variations, small and large scale that complement each other. Click this image to see all six of them!

Do you have a pattern in mind you would like to get to your home? Contact me for free design to be downloaded in Spoonflower to be printed on giftpaper, wallpaper, or over a dozen different fabrics!

Mayfest Fashion Show Project week 19

Project week 19 was fashion show; Mayfest at Pajama Factory in Williamsport, PA. I executed 3 dresses from fabrics that are available at Spoonflower, Iris stripes and swirly curves. Both fabric patterns have Braille-writing in freehand circles drawn onto them, depicting the title of the fabric. Both of these fabrics were original designs of my daughter Iris, which I then digitalized, created raport for the fabric printing and downloaded to Spoonflower. Click image for a slideshow!

The fashion show also included my jewelry that I have created out of recycled materials; feather bib out of milk carton plastic and coffee container metal, and orange earrings shown with Iris stripes dress here have been made of leftover leather strips and belt buckles.

Project #17 cow jewelry stand

Cow in front of huge ad stand features project number 17, ‘cow jewelry stand’. That’s right, you can hang jewelry from the ad part and the pasture grass is perfect for watches, rings and brooches to rest when not in use. Idea for this piece came from Geico’s ad, where old McDonald fails in a spelling competition after adding ‘eieiou’ after spelling cow. Dagnabbit, this is available for a new home for $50 as most of the project of the week sculptures. Project #15 is Undressing light sculpture

A veiled, lemon yellow pillar of fabric in the day, this trash sculpture turns into seducing female figure when lit up. Made out of plastic spool for electric cable, aluminum sticks from old gazebo and wire netting, light bulb and old piece of fabric that was actually covering tables in a wedding 1998... This nostalgic piece is around 7 ft tall and can be yours for $100.

Project #14 is 25 egg paintings in April

Getting ready for spring, I got an idea of different kind of egg paintings, eggs in surreal environment, eggs that do not exist, eggs that simply bring good moments to the viewer. I absolutely adore birds, and eggs are not only in cycle with them, but symbolize birth, growth and the future. Series of 25 egg paintings will be shown in a cafe of Harjun Oppimiskeskus (Harju Agricultural Learning Center) in Virolahti, Finland during this summer, starting during birdwathcer Arktika-days in May. Egghibition will also be shown at PJ Factory in Williamsport, PA throughout the summer 2014.
Affordable, high quality transfer prints on canvas are available in 10x10"size for $40 each. Follow my homepage for updated images showing finally all 25 eggs and contact me for more questions!

Project #12 another dawn braille sculpture

Another dawn is a scrap-media sculpture showing the new dawn, beginning of a new, as only leftover – and mixmatch parts can. Base is a countertop sample piece, the aluminum body once served as a part of some useful gadget, and wooden beads came from old ponytail holder. (Click image to view a slideshow)
Braille code has been once again turned into 3D form; the aluminum wire and beads write the pattern of Braille alphabets floating in the air, and the same text, ‘another dawn’ is repeated 2D in the front by punching the text through recycled beer can aluminum.

This sculpture is available for $50 around the globe, contact Veera for more details.

Project #11 three sisters led-light sculpture

With the desperate need to feel the warming sunlight again on my face after the winter, some nostalgic feelings brought up a wonderful trip from Australia in '90s and magnificent Blue Mountain memories. Not able to capture the views, the formation of the Three Sisters appeared in my mind, when I saw wrapping tubes used as stuffing in a UPS delivered box.
Click image for additional views in a slideshow
After digging into my raw material pile, I found also a sample of oak veneer countertop and set of Ikea led lights, that are safe with paper as they do not heat up, and I was ready to drill, hammer and bend the wire, get everything together, and there I saw them again: Three Sisters from the wild of Australia. These memories are available for $75.
